| About Drive BC |
DriveBC is the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation's traveller information system. By providing timely road condition and incident information for the provincial highway system, motorists can decide when to travel and what route to take. The road condition and incident information is updated at regular intervals and as highway conditions change.
Note: severe weather, sudden temperature changes, snow and rainfall can cause road conditions to change rapidly. Because of this, the information provided by DriveBC may not always reflect actual conditions. Neither the ministry nor its maintenance contractors are responsible for differences which may exist between current conditions and conditions reported through DriveBC. Drivers are therefore reminded to exercise caution at all times.

| Planning to Travel? |
DriveBC is a flexible, easy to use system allowing travelers to quickly access road condition and incident information on routes along the provincial highway network. There are three ways for travelers to access this information: a map view, a list view, and via our toll free phone service. |
1. Map View |
Drive BC's map view is its default format. Simply click on the map to zoom in on any area of the province. Pan in any direction by clicking on the direction arrows or zoom out (or in) again by clicking on the zoom buttons. A legend is provided describing what information is presented. Information relating to a specific point on a highway is represented using an icon only, while |
information that relates to a stretch along a highway is represented using both an icon and the color coding as described in the legend. In either case, you can simply click on an icon to get details about the nature and location of that incident or road condition. |
Not interested in a certain type(s) of information? Then uncheck the appropriate 'layers' box on the right hand side of the layers legend and then click on the ?update map? button! |
What Types Of Information Does The Map Provide? |
Current Events |
Current Events refer to all events that are currently 'active' along the provincial highway network. Types of current events include: |
• |
Road Conditions: indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details of the present condition of the road(for example flooding, slippery sections, compact snow, etc.). |
• |
Incidents: indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details on incidents affecting traffic at that location (e.g. vehicle stall, hydro lines down, collision etc). |
• |
Current Planned Events are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details of all planned events that are presently in progress (e.g. maintenance or construction work, special events, etc). |
Future Planned Events |
• |
Future Planned Events: indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details of events scheduled to occur at a specific future time and location on the provincial highway network, such as maintenance or construction work, special events, etc. |
Cameras |
• |
Cameras are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon will provide a photo of the stretch of highway where the camera is located. These photos are refreshed regularly.
The number and locations of cameras continues to expand throughout the province. As new cameras are installed and activated, they are added to the map. |
2. List View |
The List View provides road condition and incident information in a list and print friendly format. DriveBC provides the traveller with a number of list options including: |
• |
All Major Events in the province |
• |
Events and/or Conditions by Route |
• |
Events and/or Conditions by Area |
• |
Events and/or Conditions by Popular Route |
The list view presents the information using three tabs, one for Current Events, one for Planned Events and one to return to the Map View. |
| |
The events are listed in the following order: |
• |
Events affecting both directions of the highway |
• |
Events affecting eastbound or northbound travel |
• |
Events affecting westbound or southbound travel |
When reviewing the list, look at the events listed in both directions and those listed in the direction you plan to travel to get a complete picture of events on your route. |
